This world famous and controversial painter, Kostabi, makes his debut as composer and performer in the genre of New Age Music with the release of the album, I DID IT STEINWAY. I DID IT STEINWAY is an album of solo piano music filled with beautiful melodies and an extraordinary piano performance. Mark Kostabi composed and crafted each composition entirely himself and of course is responsible for the album artwork. Recorded live at Lincoln Center, this release marks a new direction for Mark Kostabi's career. Although completely ensconced in the world of painting this is the musical debut of a firmly established painter. I DID IT STEINWAY is proof-positve that Kostabi is equally talented with the piano as he is with the paint brush. Compositions such as "Glisten," "Distorted Mirror," "2,000 Kites," and "Dark Dance" accentuate Kostabi's sense of melody and his mastery with the instrument. Each album track sets a mood ranging from joyous to dark intensity but the common factor is always present- passion for the music. Kostabi was born in Los Angeles in 1960 to Estonian immigrants. He was raised in Whittier, California and studied drawing and painting at California State University, Fullerton. In 1982 he moved to New York and by 1984 he became a leading figure of the East Village art movement. He developed a provocative media persona by publishing self-interviews which commented on the commodification of contemporary art. In 1988 he founded Kostabi World - a studio, gallery and office complex known for openly employing painting assistants and idea people. KostabiÕs work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim and other museums around the world. Kostabi has designed album covers for both Guns 'N' Roses' Use Your Illusion and the Ramones album, Adios Amigos.
